    On 11th February 2023 a guest lecture session entitled “Tuning up for Job Market Readiness” was jointly organized by the Accountancy Department & Alumni Association of Vivek College of Commerce. Mr. Amit Dabke who is an alumnus of our college, gave a detailed speech to our students regarding the acumen required to be fit in the job market. The speaker widened the spectrum of our students by showing the various career options available to undergraduate students.

    The following activities were conducted by the department:

    1. A session was conducted for students in association with Indian Development Foundation on 14th July 2022 ’In Conversation with Harvinder Singh’ author of the bestseller book ‘The Winning Leader’. The speaker gave highlights of his book. There was a good interaction of the audience with the speaker.
    2. A session was conducted on 'Empowering Youth through Financial Knowledge' on 19th September 2022 for TYBCOM students. It was conducted by Mr. Amit Gujrathi from Dissect Edu Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The students were able to understand the importance of savings, Investment, and Portfolio Management. The knowledge gained from this session will help them to apply the same in their life when they start earning.
    3. A program was conducted for SYBCOM students on the topic of NCDEX’s Investors Awareness Program on the ‘Commodity Derivatives Market’ on 2nd March 2023. The session was conducted by Mr. Pravin Dhuri of Empirical F & M Academy, Mumbai. The basic concept of Commodity markets was very well explained to the students. Thereafter the Derivative markets were well explained to them. Simple examples were given to simplify the topics discussed. The topic of the Commodity Derivatives market was well understood by students.
    4. A practical training of Filling up a questionnaire was conducted for TYBCOM students who have opted for Marketing Research. The activity was conducted on Wednesday, 22nd February 2023 with the help of an actual questionnaire of a research scholar. The process of filling out a questionnaire, types of question formats like the Likert scale, and how to answer the questions were discussed. Students got practical training in filling out a questionnaire. There was a fruitful interaction of students with the research scholar
    5. On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, a session on ‘Consumer Awareness’ was conducted for TYBCOM and FYBAF students. The Guest speaker for the session was Mr. Parag Redkar, a Committee Member of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, and Mrs. Neha Joshi, Assistant editor of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat.During the beginning of the session, students were made aware of the basic understanding of who is a consumer and what his role is. The session enlightened the students about consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act 1986. Examples of different products and services were illustrated to explain the duties and responsibilities of consumers. The session was very informative and was very well received by student
    1. A session was conducted by Dr. Darshika Karia on creating awareness of ‘Spirituality Among Youth’ in the context of Spiritual Quotient. The speaker started the session with a basic understanding of the term spirituality. She very well made the session very simple with a lot of illustrations and related stories. The terms Spiritual quotient and emotional quotient along with the factors affecting them were well explained. Students liked the session and requested more sessions with the speaker on a similar topic.
    2. Remedial lectures were conducted for the ATKT student in all the subjects.

    Activities of the department

    1. Department of Business Economics took 27 students to the university for experimental learning from the experts for the M.L.Dantwala Memorial Lecture held by the Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy “Recent development of the financial sector in India” at the launch of the Centre for Research and Teaching in Finance at Mumbai school of Economics -University of Mumbai on 23d August 2023. The speaker was Deepak Parekh Chairman of the board of HDFC Ltd. He spoke on the Challenges and future of the Indian Financial system.
    2. The 56thD. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition was conducted on the 27th of September 2022. There were 3 judges for the competition and 12 participants. Miss Gurwinder Kaur Bains from TYBCOM won the first prize and was selected for the Zonal level.

    Activities organized by the department:

    1. Organized an Inter-Collegiate essay writing competition on “Environmental Friendly Lifestyle for Urban India” on 17th May 2023. The G20 is a group of the world’s major economies that recognizes the present need for the consumption of energy, climate change, sustainable life, etc. Students from different colleges in Mumbai had written the essay and mailed it to the department. The competition was judged by Dr. Tanusree Chaudhuri, Department of Environmental Studies. 25 students took part in the activity. The objective was that Urban India is always associated with a high-density of population, as a result, consumption of resources is also high. Through this essay writing competition participants are encouraged to explore and expressed their ideas related to an environmentally friendly lifestyle. The competition provided a platform for young students to share their knowledge and innovative approaches to sustainable living. The competition also gave an understanding of the importance of adopting sustainable practices such as reducing waste, conserving energy, using renewable resources, promoting recycling, etc.

In this competition, students solved the problem through participation.     Reports of activities conducted during the year.

     

    1. Prakruti Exhibition was held on 17th September 2022 in the college Gymkhana. The main objective of the event was to showcase knowledge gained by the students, by creating an eco-friendly product and selling it. There were 5 products and 1 food stall by students and a stall set up by Punarvas (NGO) which consisted of various artifacts and innovative products.  Students presented their products to the principal and other faculties one by one.  All the participants of this exhibition learned as well as developed many skills like team spirit, strong determination, coordination, etc. All the teams got a basic experience about the initial stage of entrepreneurship as they dealt with various processes like idea generation, idea valuation, etc.
    2. TYBMS Presentation on the topic ‘Logistics & Supply Chain Management." was held on 9th and 10th November 2022 in the college auditorium. The objective was to develop presentation skills in front of audiences which enhanced their confidence level.

    Activities conducted by the department:

    Curiosity is an Inter-collegiate event organized by the Department of I.T. every year. The theme for this year was “Space”. It was held on 20th January 2023. The motto of the theme was to explore space. This event's goals were to promote the plethora of talents and abilities displayed by different college students while also fostering teamwork, and effective financial management, and enhancing our interpersonal communication skills. It served to build a sense of unity and belonging on campus by giving teachers, staff, and students a chance to come together and showcase their inner qualities.

    The fest was inaugurated by the honorable Joint Secretary of VES Mr. K. Ramachandran, and Principal, Dr. Vijetha Shetty. The fest began with an opening ceremony, featuring a prayer song by our student representative, followed by words of wisdom from the Management, and remarks from the College Principal.

    Technical games like Blind Coding, Puzzle Planets, Brain It On, Stumble Guys, know your binary, and Counterstrike was part of the event. There were several non-technical games like Measure Mind, Cluster of Constellations, Tower Power, Clash of Planets, and Treasure Hunt.

    It was attended by students in large from across departments and teachers.

    1. Ayurvedarshan (Exhibition on Medicinal herbs and shrubs) was held on 23rd July 2022 in Room no. 43 for all Second-year students. The exhibition aimed to foster the exchange of knowledge and awareness among students about medicinal herbs and shrubs, highlighting their significance in traditional medicine and overall well-being. The Participants showcased a diverse array of medicinal plants, including Tulsi, Aloe vera, Amla, Shatavari, and more, and shared detailed information about the medicinal plants with all the visiting faculty members and students. Informative charts were prepared, highlighting the numerous benefits and applications of each medicinal plant. The event successfully kindled a flame of curiosity within the participants, propelling them on a quest for further exploration and discovery in the fascinating world of herbal medicine.
    2. Banking Activity for Swayam Course was held on 6th January 2023 for all the second-year students with 52 students attending the activity. The objective of the Banking Activity was to promote the habit of saving among the students and provide them with a practical understanding of basic banking operations. The activity aimed to develop budgeting skills and prioritize expenses, while also witnessing the growth of their savings pool over a 10-week period.
    • The activity involved dividing the 52 students into 4 groups and assigning roles such as group leaders, cashiers, head cashiers, accountants, and bank managers.
    • Group leaders collected 100 Rs from their respective group members every week.
    • Cashiers maintained records of the collected amount and submitted them to the head cashier.
    • The head cashier consolidated all the money and maintained records.
    • The accountant kept a record of savings for all 52 students.
    • Students maintained personal passbooks to track their deposits.
    • The students successfully accumulated a savings pool of Rs.52000 by 10th March 2023 for their registration fees.
    • The collected amount was submitted to the college's office.
    • The students were able to register for the Swayam Course examination fees, demonstrating the practical application of their savings efforts.
    • 6 students successfully cleared the Swayam course on ‘Entrepreneurship Essentials’ under NPTEL offered by IIT Kharagpur.
    1. Workshop on ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ was held from 17th to 22nd October 2022 along with E-Cell and Vivek Youth Club in the college Auditorium. The objective of the workshop was to foster the development of entrepreneurship skills among undergraduate students. The workshop aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge, tools, and mindset required to venture into the world of entrepreneurship.

    Contents:

    During the event, the speakers covered the following topics:

    • Introduction to entrepreneurship and its significance in today's economy.
    • Identifying entrepreneurial opportunities and recognizing market needs.
    • Developing a business idea and conducting market research.
    • Understanding business planning, including financial aspects and risk management.
    • Exploring different types of business models and their applicability.
    • Building effective communication and leadership skills.
    • Strategies for marketing, branding, and customer acquisition.
    • Nurturing innovation and adapting to changing business environments.
    • Learning from successful entrepreneurs through case studies and real-life examples.
    • Networking opportunities and interaction with experienced professionals.
    1. Completion of Courses at Raj Computers Academy
    • The students enrolled for the course ‘Banking Practices & Procedures’ sponsored by Alvita Pharma Pvt. Ltd. and facilitated by Raj Computers Academy.
    • The duration of the Banking Course was 3 months, from 21st June 2022 to 21st September 2022,
    • The course focused on different job profiles in the banking sector, such as Loan Processing Officer, Debt Recovery Agent, and soft skills development.
    • After completing the Banking Course, the students further enrolled in the "Retail Management’ course sponsored by Bharat Vikas Parishad and facilitated by Raj Computers Academy.
    • The Retail Management Course lasted for 1 month, from 24th August 2022 to 29th September 2022.
    • The Retail Management course covered topics related to managing retail operations, customer service, inventory management, and sales techniques.

    The outcome of the session:

    • All 14 students at Vivek College of Commerce successfully completed both the Banking Practices & Procedures course and the Retail Management course.
    • The students performed well in the course examinations and achieved good grades.

    1. The Factory Model Exhibition was organized on 30th July 2022 under the course Business Law II of SYBAF under the guidance of Prof. Anuja Narvankar. 200 students visited the exhibition venue.
    2. On 22nd December 2022, 46 students of FYBAF, 46 students of SYBAF, and 48 students of TYBAF participated in the Industrial Visit to Silvassa. Students visited factories of Marble Manufacturing, Parle-G, and Cosmetics Manufacturing.
    3. Students of FYBAF in the Foundation Course II Project under the guidance of Prof. Mayur Shah participated in the ‘Tree Plantation Drive’ on 27th February 2023 in collaboration with the Green Committee & National Service Scheme (NSS) for creating awareness of the environment among the students. The plantation was held in the College Open Terrace Area. The students planted 30 Flowering Plants & Ayurvedic Plants.

    A discussion on Union Budget - 2022 was held jointly with the Department of Business Economics on 4th February 22. 11 students presented their views on different aspects of Union Budget-2022. Four teachers viz. Prof. CA Jayesh Vaidya, Prof. CA Shrikant Marathe, Dr. Prabhakar Musam, and Prof. Vivek Singh contributed as Moderators to the Discussion held. Dr. Malathi Iyer Head of the Department of Business Economics and Prof. CA Jayesh Vaidya, Head of the Department of Accountancy guided the students in their preparations.

    1.  The business Research presentation was organized on 28th February 2022 in the College Auditorium for the BMS students. The main objectives of this event were to explore and travel the world of research. Various topics for research were chosen by the students and helped the students to develop their presentation skills and learn to be budding entrepreneurs in the future. There were 14 groups which consist of 5 members each.
    2. Prakruti exhibition was organized on 23rd March 2022 from 09:00 m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room no. 52 for the students. The main objective of the event was to showcase the learned topics in the BMS department and to back this with an appropriate model. There were 5 models and 1 management game. Students presented their models to the principal and other faculties.

       The following activities were conducted for the students

    1. The department celebrated National Science Day on 28th February 2022. The entire event was divided into two sessions. Session 1 was the presentation of projects done by the third-year B.Sc.I.T. students.
    2. Shetty Ashvin and Pranav Menon presented a mobile attendance application for teachers using the barcode present in the existing Identity card of the student.
    3. Udaiyar Chittibabu presented on ‘How to configure NAS storage’.
    4. Shivaramakrishnan Somaskandan, Ruban Nadar, and Vijay Periyaswami developed a game using unity software.
    5. Chukkala Tarunsai, Aditravidar Sajitha, and Karthik Ganeshan presented a mobile application to detect whether the person is wearing a mask or not.
    6. Suraj Yadav and Aditya Yadav presented ‘How to create a portfolio website’.

    Session 2 was addressed by Mr. Jignesh Upadhyay – Director ADWISEIT the keynote speaker on the topic ‘Software Development- Understanding the big picture. The speaker’s session enthralled the students and created a holistic development approach among students which was reflected during the question-and-answer session.

     

    1. The Department in association with Innovators organized an intercollegiate event Curiosity 2022. The theme was ‘Gaming’. The entire event was designed for technical and non-technical games.

    There was also a game on testing the coding skills of students. It was a memorable inter-collegiate event.

    1. Organized webinar on ‘Importance of Due Diligence in Investing’ on 24th September 2021 along with BAF department on Microsoft Teams. Guest Speaker was Prof. Mandar Thakur, Mithibai College. This webinar was conducted to bring awareness among the youth about the importance of diligence in investing.
    2. Online Placement Drive for ICICI Bank was organized on 27th September 2021 along with the BAF department. Guest Speaker was Mr. Deepak Garg, BFSI trainer, and specialist in the banking sector. The webinar gives insights on banking sector job prospects, different job profiles available in banks, and certificate courses and diplomas required for different job profiles.
    3. Webinar was organized on ‘Awareness Programme on Competitive exam’ on 29th September 2021 along with the BAF department on the Zoom platform. Guest Speaker was Dr. Vijay Pratap Shahi. Students were given information about the importance of competitive exams, guidance on different competitive exams like UPSC, MPSC, Banking exams, etc., and how to prepare for these exams.
    4. ‘The investor Awareness Program’ during the World Investor Week was organized on 24th November 2021 on the zoom platform Guest Speaker was Mr. Amogh Gothoskar, Trustee and Treasurer DEEP –ARCHAN Charitable trust. The webinar was conducted free of cost for students under the banner of the Investor Protection Fund of NSE or BSE.
    5. Constitution Day was celebrated on 26th November 2021. Students participated by preparing a short video of taking the pledge by reading the Preamble.
    6. Banker’s Mela was organized on 4th March 2022. Second-year BCom (Banking and Insurance) students arranged the Bankers Mela. They helped college students to open an online bank account. Students visited different banks like Kotak, ICICI, Union Bank, Bandhan Bank, Bharat Bank, etc, and got the information for opening the saving account in the respective banks. On 4th March 2022, with a group of 2, they arranged the stalls for these banks and gave full guidance to students for opening the bank account.118 students visited their stall and made the event successful.
